Sustainable Paradise: Exploring the Twin Fin’s Eco-Friendly Initiatives

Here at The Twin Fin, we’re committed to keeping Honolulu beautiful. As an eco-friendly hotel, we pride ourselves on our green initiatives, ensuring that your stay is unforgettable and environmentally friendly. Honolulu is a paradise, and when you stay with The Twin Fin, you can rest assured that you’re at an eco-conscious hotel that cares about your needs, as well as the planet’s. Here’s a closer look at some eco-friendly initiatives we’re proud to participate in here at The Twin Fin.

Parley for the Oceans

Hawaii has a special connection to the ocean. It provides so much to us here in Honolulu, and being just steps from our front door, we feel a responsibility to take care of it. That’s why we’re so incredibly proud to be partnered with our friends at Parley for the Oceans.

Parlay for the Oceans’ mission is clear: they work tirelessly to transform human-made materials and systems to be more harmonious with our natural world and ecosystem, and they strive to inspire more impactful participation in environmental causes — not just through words, but through meaningful action. Their green initiatives and works can be found around the world. They partner with creative communities, brands, governments, and environmental groups to offer solutions that help protect the world’s oceans from plastic pollution, climate change, biodiversity loss, and other challenges. Parley encourages people to not just be aware of the very real threats facing our oceans, but to be accountable for ocean-saving solutions. They aim to inspire and empower people to actively participate in protecting the bodies of water that connect us all.

At The Twin Fin, we partnered with Parley for the Oceans in 2022. Since then, we’ve implemented several green hotel practices, including eliminating the sale of single-use plastics and removing single-use toiletries from guest rooms. We’ve also installed filtered water stations and added reusable water bottles to rooms.

You can also find the Parley Wave Sculpture here at The Twin Fin. This work of art addresses the threats our oceans face every day. Constructed using waste collected from our oceans, the Wave Sculpture highlights the devastating effects overconsumption and climate change are having on our waters. Don’t miss it when you arrive at The Twin Fin.

Looking for ways to Parley? Stop by the Coconut Club for inspired talks, check out your in-room Parley Shop to donate to their activities, join us for a beach clean up, or stop by the Parley Interactive Classroom. This weekly poolside activation takes place on the Groove Pool Deck. You can explore your creative side with fellow ocean enthusiasts to make unique art pieces that can serve as a memento for the time you spent here in Honolulu. And while your creativity is flourishing, you might just learn a thing or two about sustainable travel and environmentally friendly practices as well. This kid-friendly activity is a must for any eco-friendly travel enthusiasts eager to learn more about what they can do to protect our environment.

Mananalu

Mananalu & Twin Fin

As we’ve already mentioned, our partnership with Parley for the Oceans led to the elimination of single-use plastics, the installation of filtered water stations, and the addition of reusable water bottles. That’s where Mananalu comes into the picture! Guests of The Twin Fin will find delicious and refreshing Mananalu water in their room when they arrive here in paradise. Best of all, this water comes in a reusable aluminum bottle that you can easily refill at any of our three water refill stations in the hotel — reducing the need for additional single-use beverage containers!

Mananalu was founded by a very familiar face — Jason Momoa. It should come as no surprise that the actor who plays Aquaman is passionate about the environment. In fact, his mission is to “unplastic” the planet. And to do this, Mananalu works with rePurpose Global, the world’s first Plastic Credit Platform. As part of this mission, every time you drink a bottle of Mananalu, rePurpose Global is committed to removing one bottle’s-worth of plastic from the ocean. This plastic is then recycled and repurposed instead of being incinerated or sent to a landfill.

To date, Mananalu and rePurpose Global have already removed over 13,000 bottles from coastal areas that are most in need. It’s a great start, but lots of work remains to be done — and we’ll all need to be hydrated to do it!

As part of our partnership with Mananalu, we’ll be organizing events such as beach clean-ups and native tree planting to do our part in ensuring our little piece of paradise continues to thrive. Keep an eye on our events page for more info

The Aloha Collection

Here at The Twin Fin, our green initiatives make it easy for you to be environmentally conscious and fashionable at the same time — thanks in part to the Aloha Collection! Inspired by a love of adventure, exploration, and the mighty Pacific, the Aoloha Collection is driven by mālama ʻāina — meaning to take care of the land in Hawaiian. With this in mind, Aloha Collection donates 5% of all their profits, including sales from custom Twin Fin designs available at our front desk, to Hawaii-based conservation organizations.
